Call for papers

We have the honor to invite you to the Third International Conference on Rhetoric “Days of Ivo Škarić” and would be honored if you contributed to its success by sharing your research findings in the fields of rhetoric, argumentation theory, stylistics, informal logic and neighboring disciplines. The conference in honor of late Professor Emeritus Ivo Škarić, the most prominent and influential Croatian expert in rhetoric, has become biennial meeting point for experts in the interdisciplinary field of rhetoric and we had the honor to host scholars from Europe and North America, with keynote speakers being prominent authorities in argumentation theory and visual rhetoric (Leo Groarke, Igor Ž. Žagar, Frans H. van Eeemeren and Jens E. Kjeldsen).

The 2016 conference will be organized from April 20th to 23rd in the city of Postira, Island of Brač, Croatia. Keynote speakers will be Christopher Tindale (University of Windsor, Canada), Michael Burke (University of Utrecht, the Netherlands) and Krešimir Bagić (University of Zagreb, Croatia). Conference themes include, but are not limited to:

argumentation and law
argumentation theory
history of rhetoric
rhetoric and philosophy
rhetoric and stylistics
rhetoric in the media
rhetoric of political discourse
rhetoric of religious discourse
rhetoric of science
rhetoric in education and
visual rhetoric
The deadline for sending abstracts is November 15th 2015 and after the peer review process the final decisions will be announced by December 1st 2015. Deadline for early bird registration is February 1st 2016 with the registration fee of 100 € (50 € for Master and Ph.D. students). The languages of the conference are English and Croatian. The length of each paper must not exceed 15 minutes. After each presentation there will be a 5 minute discussion. Sessions will be held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with an excursion planned for Friday afternoon and Conference Dinner for all registered participants on Saturday night. Wednesday afternoon is reserved for registration and reception. Information about accommodation and transportation are given at the official website. We are looking forward to your applications, presentations of your current research and exchange of ideas in the hospital atmosphere on the beautiful Croatian Island of Brač, with one of the most striking landscapes in the Adriatic Sea.
